Time to Break the Ice

By October 4, 2019

Picture this. It’s the first day of a big conference, and one of the presenters announces she wants to start the session with an icebreaker: Find Someone Who. The whole room takes a collective sigh. It can be hard to make those first connections when you’re at a conference where you don’t know anyone, but Find Someone Who is one of the most overused icebreaker out there. Here are 4 unique icebreaker ideas for your next event—and don’t worry, Find Someone Who is not on here.

1. Photo ops

When your attendees get to your event you want them to be taking photos! Give your attendees 10 minutes to interact with each other and take selfies with people they haven’t met. Encourage them to share their selfies using your event hashtag on social media.

2. Questions for the table

For an event with limited space, place a sheet of paper with random questions on it for each individual to answer and share with the group. Make sure they’re fun questions that will get everyone laughing. For example, “If you were a vegetable, which one would you be?” or “If you could choose your age forever, which age would you choose and why?”

3. Scavenger hunt

If your event is at a larger venue like MEET Las Vegas, a scavenger hunt is the perfect way for guests to get to know each other! Have attendees get into teams and follow the clues to win the scavenger hunt. There’s nothing more important than team building!

4. Introduce your neighbor

This is an icebreaker for introverts and extroverts alike! Have attendees pair up, then spend five minutes getting to know each other. After those five minutes are up, each person introduces their partner to the group. It’s a great way to get to know a little bit about a lot of people.
