The Invitation: Avoiding Bad First Impressions

Invitations are an obvious step when planning an event. If you don’t send out invites, how will anyone know about your event? The invitation is also the first impression you usually make with potential guests. How can you ensure that your invitation doesn’t fall short of expectations?
BizBash suggested nine tips for planners to consider for their invitations.  A few highlights:
  • Keep things simple. Don’t include extras with the invitations, if you can avoid it. Themes are great, but leave the confetti out.
  • Avoid sponsorship overload. Guests appreciate knowing the difference between the host and the sponsors. Make it easy for invitees to tell them apart.
  • Proofread before sending out the invitation. There’s nothing worse than sending out an invitation full of typos. Take time to make sure everything is correct.
  • Facebook is full of competing messages and not the most effective way to distribute an invite. If you do choose to use it, invite everyone in the same format at the same time, whether it’s digital, print, or social media.
